I will say this again, the reason that pilots are screened is because what if they are not pilots? They stole the uniform and forged the ID to get on a plane with a weapon. See a movie called Catch me if you can. I dont know what the deal is with small knives. No knives of any size is allowed on a plane. I know if they drop the knives rule, the tsa haters would really jump on the wagon about pre and post 911 screening methods.

Correction - no knives of any kind/size may be brought through the security chokepoint by a passenger. Knives are certainly allowed on planes, as evidenced by the fact that every meal I have been served in the FC/BE cabin on DL this year has been accompanied by a full set of silverware, including an actual metal knife.
