Christina was released from jail on $150 bond and scheduled in Marion Superior Court 10 on December 13.
"It was very much a joke, and I smiled and he smiled," said John A. Christina, 51, Simsbury, Conn., who faces a misdemeanor charge of battery causing injury.
In the incident in Indianapolis, Christina said, he had just stepped out of the full-body scanner, and he asked the nearest TSA agent about the next step in the process.
That agent, Hutman, said he didn't know the process because he is new to the Indianapolis terminal.
Christina retorted with a punch or jab with a closed right fist to Hutman's chest and said he should know the procedure, according to the airport police report.
The report quotes Hutman asking, "Why did you have to hit me?" And the report quotes Christina saying, "I was only kidding with you."
OK, probably not the brightest guy in the world, but probably not deserving of all the attention either.
I actully believe this passenger, I don't think it was assault....
But it brings up a point: some of the FT members have promised you will physically strike a screener if your patted down, and then have the screener arrested. After this incident, I doubt that claim can be made with a straight face.
Heck, if this person was obviously joking, gave the screener a light tap on the chest, how would it go if one up and clobbered a screener? Should be clearn now: it wouldn't go good for the passenger.
