Hello Mr 1KPath,
We’re always glad to hear from 1K Three Million Miler members like you. Thanks for writing.
I'm sorry you're disappointed with how Regional Upgrades will be earned beginning in 2011. We’d like to reward members earlier in the same year that they have activity. Prior to making any changes to our program, we look at how it will impact all of our members.
Today, in order to earn two (2) Regional Upgrades, you first need to reach 100,000 elite status miles (EQM) and then fly 10,000 additional flight miles on United in a quarter. In 2011, you will automatically earn two (2) Regional Upgrades as soon as you reach 75,000 EQM or 90 EQS, and will earn two more at every 25,000 EQM or 30 EQS thereafter with unlimited earning potential. In addition, now all EQM/EQS you earn (not just flight miles on United), will count towards earning Regional Upgrades.
As a Million Miler, you will still earn the two Regional Upgrades in January.
Please be patient as the program expands and changes. We appreciate and value customer comments as they validate what is important to our members. I am forwarding your suggestions to our marketing department, which evaluates new ideas and suggestions to enhance the program and to keep it interesting and meaningful for our members.
Regards,
A couple of things...1. the response from 1KVoice is now the UA1P1KGS desk??...2. two Regional Upgrades will still be given to MMs in January (a good thing)...3. my comments on the increase in the number of segments required for 1K was ignored (important for a number of my employees)
I really get the impression that UA is not quite sure what they want to do...sort of throwing things against the wall and seeing what sticks. I have a gut feeling that the MP and marketing departments are having a battle with the new bean counters...if they are like any of the bean counters I know!! With this in mind, I hope everyone writes to United to express displeasure with the changes...it might give some of the MP people some some extra ammo to fight for the existing program!!
I am thankful that my business travel career is nearly over (after 35 years!!) and that I have status on AA and DL if things get even worse on UA!!
Got practically the same boilerplate response to my email to the 1K desk.
