The downside, IMHO, is that there is no seat in front of you to place a carryon. The overhead bin on the B/C side starts a few rows back. It's a good seat if you don't have a carryon, or if you do you are able to get space on the opposite side several rows back, and you don't mind jostling with the folks behind you upon gate arrival to get your stowed carryon.
I take 1A as much as possible, and I have always been given space in either the front closet or the little mini-cupboard in the galley for my carryon.
