I actually live in La Jolla and make the BA LAX-LHR flight about once a month and it's never fun. With no traffic it takes me 2 hours to make the drive (I live right on the coast) with traffic such as last night it can take 4+hours. Also, with 14-20+ days of parking adding up to over $350. plus 120.00 for gas and I gladly welcome a SAN-LHR flight. I've done the SAN-SFO-LHR and that's a hassle as is the SAN-JFK-LHR and the Carlsbad to LAX shuttle can be alright but, not so good either.
When flying from LAX to LHR, NRT, etc., I usually connect SAN-LAX, but sometimes (especially when flying with my husband) rent a car one way and drive up, and then either use a car service for the return or cajole someone into picking me up.
