Having just gone back to the hotel, here's an update, and with no compunction can I reveal the property:
Renaissance Waverly
I checked with the same person who had checked me in, and she said her boss had re-iterated the line, but that, as an exception, to make me happy, I would get a breakfast voucher.
So I gave the feedback from MR on this. And it turns out that the front office manager and the boss of my check-in person is one and the same.
So this manager is clearly going to continue this line, and will only provide breakfast coupons when pressed, while the lounge is closed for a whole week. I will also feed this back to the elite desk for their further action.
