Would it be a better option to book a flexible WTP ticket and upgrade with miles? Would this give greater flexibility without such a high ticket change fee?
I've searched through previous threads about ability to change reservation after outbound travel completed but couldn't find anything that exactly matches my query.
Beware : I've posted in another thread that there seems to have been a change in policy ex-IAH at least for change fees of MFU'd fares. It used to be that time & date changes of the inbound would be as the underlying WT+ fare (ie $275 ex-US) however now it seems the price has shot up to $400 which seems to be closer to the cost of the change fee for an 'I' fare, ie the change fee now refelcts the cabin you're travelling in, not that of the underlying fare.
You need to look at the change fees carefully but if this is reflected in the ex-UK fares and the price is similar, there will typically be more 'I' inventory to change to, rather than hunting for CW award inventory on the new day(s) you want.
