Anythings possible. However, if the DOJ and DOT approved the United/Continental and Delta/Northwest mergers they likely won't stand in the way of a Southwest/Airtran marriage.
There might be a few unhappy shareholders and customers (there always are in mergers) but it's likely not enough to derail the merger.
