In a semi-related situation, I checked into my regular (at the time) Fairfield Inn and found I didn't have the plat arrival gift waiting in my room as usual. A bag of cookies and some water, IIRC.
Later on, I talked with the property manager, and she was a little embarassed and got me the stuff right away. I wasn't at all pi33ed, just a little poke to keep the staff up to snuff (they usually were). She called me a little later and asked about the $25, but I said that wasn't necessary. So, she suggested some points instead. Since I always like getting points, I said, "Sure, that would be nice". And 5,000 points showed up in my account a couple of days later. Sweet!
The very next week, the same thing happened. Same outcome - a gratuitous 5K additional in my account (and I suspect the housekeeping staff got ripped a new one).
I suggested that maybe we could work a little dealie here, but no. Oh well.
Anyhow, it was all completely settled to my great satisfaction, especially since she had initiated the $25 request. Heck, I'd have just blown it on beer or something, whereas the points went, as I recall, towards a very nice week in Monaco.
