my YYZ-YYC flight today was oversold by at least 5 pax when I arrived at the gate. The agent started with a $200 voucher and increased it to $300 until he got a pair of takers. I overheard him apologizing to the three that were left behind and that he'd see about an upgrade on the 1:00 pm flight along with the $300 voucher. He also told them that he'd look for some food vouchers as well - no promises, just that he'd make the effort.

Darned generous and nice of the gate agent, IMO! He was polite and tried very hard to get things worked out, despite the pressure to close the flight - kudos to the AC gate folks on such a busy day!
