I am doing seat map interpolation, combined with speaking to the reservations desk. Seat map shows flights about 10% booked. Understanding that seat map isn't an accurate measure, my experience is that you can get a "feel" (not a measure, just a feel) about relative load. Then, when I speak to the reservations desk, they confirm that load (total load) is under 50%.
