Severe Limits on Award Seats

No, this isn't about international travel. No, this isn't about business/first travel. This is about domestic coach travel.

AA, which historically has had *excellent* award availability, has apparently made a *significant* change in yield management.

I was looking for 3 seats, coach award, from BOS to LAX on 7/11. I was advised that as of today, there is not *any* flight, non-stop or connection, with 3 coach planaahead award seats available. Moreover, if you look at the present loads, you will be shocked. Based on my research there isn't presently a single flight which is even 50% booked (the non-stops I looked at are under 25% booked).

I thought this might be an error/anamoloy. But it isn't. Reservations sent my request to yield management for review, and the request for the seats was formally denied.

NOTE: We *could* book 4 First Class award seats, on the non-stop. Isn't that a twist? I am not yet complaining, just observing. But, based on 20 years of experience, I was shocked.
