This is the problem without a clear policy over holiday treatment for the breakfast guarantee. Some holidays (President's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day for instance) clearly last one day. Other holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas have business travel drops off for a longer period than the actual holiday itself.
I can understand if a hotel wants to close the lounge during the super slow periods, but the idea of wiggling out of offering breakfast for an extended period during the end of the calendar year does not put me in a jolly mood. They have to cook a certain amount of food each day for breakfast, so the marginal cost of feeding some elite members is not that high when occupancy is low.
I cannot speak for gold members, but I know that in the DC suburbs that the Tysons Corner Marriott & the Fairfax Marriott at Fair Oaks give breakfast coupons to platinum members on weekends and holidays.
