On any of these "direct" flight, has anyone tried booking it as two different segments? I wonder if it's possible to do that on aa.com or elsewhere and, if so, if it will price properly and if aa will award miles as if it were a connection instead of a "direct" flight. And if it works on a "direct" flight, I wonder if it would would on a real direct flight (i.e., one on which there is no change of planes).
[I just tried this on aa.com. I booked AA46 SFO-LHR on 11 Feb and it priced out at $1110.70 and would award 5368 miles. I then booked AA46 SFO-ORD, connecting to AA46 ORD-LHR, which priced out at $1117.70. As others have suggested, the $7 difference probably is attributable to a difference in the way the taxes and airport fees are calculated. Assuming aa would award miles as if this were a connection, one would get 5,799 miles, or 431 more than the "direct" flight (1,293 if tripled under the FLY04 promotion).]
