I would agree, Canadian was a great airlines. This will date me but I few Canadian when it was known as Canadian Pacific Airlines (or something like that) and to/from South American with stops in every country. Great service.

Regarding the 777, sweet, direct from MIA to LAX. There is another way to do that same route and going in F without using miles.
Go flight 908 at 721am arriving at DFW 933am and then go flight 2421 leave 1045am arrive LAX 1159am. Both flights are 777 and it's a two class service, so 3 electronic upgrades per leg. The 'biz' section of the plane is then coach for elite member, but you get coach service only. I know in F you get breakfast from MIA to DFW, done it before. Now from DFW to LAX you get a snack service. It's a cheap way to get F if you want to use 6 electronic upgrades or go part way in coach.
The seating in F was the type you have your own center where someone else could sit with you in a small side seat with it's own table. Your seat turns to the side to your table center. This is much different than the 777 from ORD/DFW were they are two F seat to each section and they don't turn. The F seats lay down flat on both types of 777 planes.

All in all, the plane is very nice and even in trubilance, it rides very well. Personal TVs on each seat great! I wish AA would add the games.

Save your miles, use them on an international flight. Use them on an overnight flight, where you can go Biz and stretch out more for a better night sleep. You can always come back coach on a day flight.
