I would spend a few on the SkyMall and save the rest for unsecheduled travel where miles for an award could save you a lot of money. I had to do that once and was very grateful I had miles rather than spend the $900 (post-tax by the way) for the fare.

Keep the miles and shop for small stuff once in a while to keep the account active and the miles from expiring.
