Since people are opting out of NoS and the TSA has been pushing back pretty hard with everything from name calling (
1) to intimidation (2*) to threats and legal threats (
3 and DY...T), it would make sense to create a step-by-step flow chart of how to handle the situation to help educate people about their rights and, more specifically, the limits of TSA authority.
I propose :
- that it start at airport selection,
- then security checkpoint selection,
- then pre-opt out (which includes breaking it into different scenarios from "I will opt-out, but will unwillingly accept a pat-down in order to fly" to "I would rather miss my trip than go through that", prefilled comment cards, etc),
- then immediately following the opt-out (control of possessions, etc),
- then during pat-downs,
- then how to document and then how to contact the TSA, along with what things must be reported and what things are a little more optional
Since I haven't been through one of these yet, I don't have the most up to date knowledge on it or the legalities around it (I'm in the target audience

), but it seems like a well-written document could really take off in the current situation.
