Every metal object shows up on the backscatter machines, from earrings to pins in your hips (I have three) to decorations "down there." I guess you have to be willing to (virtually) display such decorations to an unseen TSO, who may be male or female, if you submit to the NoS. That is not "sounding the alarm" but it is certainly invasive by my standards.
