Self Service check-in kiosk problem at GVA
Well I thought this issue might merit my humble first posting on FT, and apologies if it's an old chestnut (I did check the Read This First, first) - so here goes: last Thursday, having used OLCI for BA735 to LHR as usual, I tried to print my boarding pass at the kiosk at GVA airport.
Having gone through the usual process, the machine produced a boarding pass but it was for a female passenger (I'm male) travelling on Finnair. I tried to repeat the process but the BA system told me I was already checked in.
I took the boarding pass to the Finnair check-in and explained what had happened, but which was treated with a shrug of the shoulders.
I joined the BA bag-drop queue (always a mystery as to what takes so long!), and explained what had happened to the BA (DNATA agency) check-in agent - her reaction: "oh that probably means somebody else will get your boarding pass".
In these days of supposed high security, this didn't seem to me to be a very satisfactory response... but maybe it's not important since the passport check would prevent any unauthorised use, wouldn't it?
Is this a common occurrence? Does it matter? I look forward to hearing the views of the experts!
