I questioned both Continental and United multiple times during the year for an answer on how the elite miles will be treated and each time I received a response with the same marketing rhetoric. The only thing I really care about is the 100% mileage bonus vs 25%. If the two carriers were more upfront about thier plans to keep the programs seperate at the time of the merger I would have combined miles and forgone any upgrades to protect my status for 2011.
Anyone else have similar thoughts? I think we are gettting screwed if we have elite status in both programs. Screw United and Continental-thankfully I am still going to be at least platinum on Delta! Delta at least had the courtesy to combine elite miles during the NWA merger!!!
Few things to consider, regarding the DL/NW aspect. It was several months before DL began to combine the programs. It was ironically about 2 years ago that they merged, and was in spring before accounts were able to move miles easily. CO/UA is 6 weeks in, no decision on which program will survive has been made. Nor has UACO management claimed that it would be done this year. Using the DL/NW timeline it would be April-ish (at the soonest) that we would see the progs combined.
Also, since October 2009 you were able to deposit miles into one account (UA or CO). You made the choice, based on speculation, to deposit into both accounts. Your claimed marketing rhetoric was indeed the answer to your question, you just chose to ignore the fact that it was the answer.
I'm curious to know what miles you've flown this year. Reminding you that Platinum vs 1k is 25k miles.
