Even though the EXP "free drink" benefit in Y has been in place for a while, several AA flight attendants still don't know this rule. A couple of months ago, (MIA-GRU) a flight attendant argued with me that such rule didn't exist. I reaffirmed her that it was the case, and she asked me for proof, since "there was over 60 years of service serving the cabin and nobody had ever heard of this rule". I told her to not worry about it, and that I would have water instead.
Thirty minutes later she appears with a small bottle of wine (which I declined), saying that I was correct about this benefit.
In August, I was on AA137 LHR-LAX in 31J (didn't get upgraded for the first time in 5 years... sigh! ) the FAs would not give me a free drink, and the purser said there were no free drinks for EXPs. At the time, I felt that this was adding insult to injury to have to pay $6 for beer, esp. as my ticket had cost >$2400 for a r/t SFO-NBO.
