If you are a Platinum AmEx cardholder -- you get comped SPG Gold status -- but AFAIK, that does not typically include free breakfast. (You would need to call SPG CS & let them know you are an AmEx Plat cardholder in order to get the status upgrade).
Even for SPG Plats, 'free breakfast' is at the discretion of individual properties (ie. if there is a club lounge that is closed on weekends, you are usually given a breakfast voucher for the restaurant in lieu of what you would have had in the lounge, had it been open).
