Asking the board for some advice before I go and buy a toaster (with the shipping and handling costing three times the product value)- I am based in Europe, migrated a few years ago from the Aeroplan SE to Lufthansa M&M, and still have 86K "orphan" Aeroplan miles. I have checked a few times for flights, however the flights I wanted were never available- or the taxes and fees were close to the cost of just buying an Economy ticket.
What I am looking for is a good idea on the best value I can get out of these miles? Please don't answer "give them to me"- just asking if someone has a good idea of what I can do with this? Hotels etc.
For example, I had around 500K Delta miles- and found fantastic value using them at Intercontinental Hotels- burned a ton in London and San Francisco at the rate of 19.5 K points per night- as opposed to 350 GBP in London and $425 USD in San Francisco respectively. Obviously here I have a much lower number of Aeroplan miles left-but it would be a shame to waste them. One clarification- I am an Aeroplan BASIC member now- so no Elite perks available.
