What are your normal routes? Are they elite heavy? The answer to this question will also help you decide... If you're always on elite heavy routes, the only difference between silver and gold is the increase in RDM bonus.

I was silver for 3 years and have been gold the last two. I try to not fly elite heavy routes/times and have seen a drastic improvement in my upgrade % as a gold.
