I did buy the 7D and find it a dramatic improvement over the Digital Rebel. I did NOT buy it for the HD video (or video of any kind, for that matter), I bought it for everything else.
I'm using glass that can be used with EOS film cameras - I also have an EOS3 that I've run hundreds of rolls of film through (now to scan it all....). So, for me, the issue of glass for full-frame is a non-issue. Again, YMMV.
I would consider the memory card a non-issue. CF is still around but starting to get a bit harder to get (Costco near me have stopped selling it in favor of SD). I think CF will be around for quite a while, though SD has sorta become the new standard. I have plenty of memory and keep adding more...
For me, the price delta for full-frame vs the 7D was the deciding factor. I'm not a heavy pro user, but want the best quality I can get.
Given what you've said, you may not need the latest and greatest. It's worth the trip to a store to compare them. Even better if you can find a place to let you take a test run & compare the output.
