Thanks all.

IsleOfMan, budget can be an issue, but it can not be an issue if that makes sense at all. I'm prepared to invest - but I want to get the results from the camera.

HD Video quite frankly doesn't appeal to me. I use my iPhone4 for a bit of HD Video (mainly shooting takeoffs and landings sadly), and ... that's about it. A wasted feature on me really.

More pixels are always nice, but not at the cost of noise (although the new version of Lightroom helps out a lot there if I was honest), hence why a replacement 40D/50D is in the picture.

Reading more into the 60D, I'm not happy over some of the changes in it (and is it me.. or does it seem more "consumery" than the previous xxD's?)

CPRich... Judging by your responses... maybe not on the 7D

More glass is always appreciated (and I think I'm going to have to replace my 17-40L soon), so it's a saving. I've got batteries and CompactFlash. Considering I've got a bunch of 16GB CF Cards earlier this year for not a lot, I'm reluctant to let them go just to switch to SD memory and a few extra benifits. Focusing Zones would be useful for some of my work (i.e. when "that" 747 flies in and I want to concentrate on a zone rather than a point), but in general, I'm actually very happy with the 40D performance.

The 40D has been through a life and a half (I don't believe in giving any of my equipment an easy life), and whilst perfect for anything that doesn't require a studio or a flash scenario, it's for "those occasions" when I need one (typically the occasions when I'm actually using the camera to earn money), so it may be one more trip to the repair shop (although a shutter assembly set me back the best part of £200 for a repair - most of that was labour costs).

Part of me says repair it and pay another £200. Another part says let it have a peaceful retirement

Global_Hi_Flyer, I'd love a full sized sensor too (again, for night photography a godsend), but even the old Canon 5D's (non Mark II) are still a a substantial hit on the wallet - and I'd have to invest in serious glass to get the best out of it.

I think I need to go and play with some bodies and compare results....
