i've helped my fellow fters by giving them a few examples....now you can help your fellow fters by not asking the same questions that have been asked before....

hilton, marriott, spg & hyatt are 4 programs & by my definition that is 'a lot'....there are lots of airline programs that do so as well....try doing a search on the t&c of different programs & you will get your answer....
i agree some chains may not delete your account (even though the t&c claims that they will) but you cannot turn around & cry foul if they do....

it doesn't make a difference to him actually....he has never stayed at a hilton....i signed him up for a potential stay that never took place....after that he never stayed with them....

now, since you are arguing just for the sake of arguing, i'm going to let you do a little research & give you a chance to help your fellow fters....i've given 4 chains that do....how about you give us a few t&c which don't mention the 'closing' of accounts????
& please note, i never said 'hotel chains', i said 'programs' which include hotel & airlines....

i'm going to quote you here....bold emphasis mine....
Given more folk have mentioned that their accounts have been deactivated by Hilton than the other programs
if
more folk have mentioned their accounts have been closed by hilton then that means that
some folks have mentioned their account being closed by other chains....if that were not the case then you would not have used the word 'more'....
so that is where the 'tons of people' come from....

i agree....it sucks & i don't agree with this policy but it is the way it is....

you can still use it as a paperweight....no one stopping you from doing that....

of course....i have never claimed otherwise....
all jokes apart, here is the deal....i agree that it is stupid to close the account....i agree that most other chains usually won't close your account even though their t&c claim that they do....i agree hilton does it more often than others....but at the end of the day, they are simply following the rules of their program....rules that we agreed to abide by if we want to be part of their programs....
a person who doesn't stay or fly with a program for over a year is obviously someone who is not using their account often....the way i look at it, hilton obviously feels they have a good reason to close these accounts....good for them....they may lose some business due to this but that's their headache....
