When I hear 'a lot' w/o descriptions then I prefer someone detail what the 'lot' is, so that others can make informed decisions on where to make their stays. So please -
do 'go on & on'. You will be helping your fellow FTers.
When I hear a 'lot', I expect a lot to be numerous - not just 1-3 programs that again have already been mentioned as not closing out accounts, even if they say they may do so in their T&C. Specifically, what other chains are you referring to that you know definitively are deleting accounts after a year?
Given more folk have mentioned that their accounts have been deactivated by Hilton than the other programs, I'd say your father is lucky. And good for him!
But I'm still more interested in what the 'lot' of hotel chains is that you mention definitely close accounts and look forward to you sharing that with us FTers, so that we know which chains to avoid.
We already know that *wood, Hyatt & PC don't, so even if folk may lose their points they can blow the dust off their accounts & book w/o having to create new accounts. If you know of 'tons of folk' who have had their accounts deleted, we'd be interested in that as well. Just curious - how do you go about quantifying 'tons'? A bit confused on that one.
Obviously the bottom line is that w/ Hilton you'll definitely have your points yanked & there's a pretty good chance you'll get your account deleted.
Which may mean that in the next year or so that the paperweight w/ my account # that Hilton sent me on some big anniversary it had will be worthless because the account # won't be valid. Of course the
Lifetime Platinum status that Marriott gave me on its same anniversary will still be valid
BTW - I do agree w/ you that folk should sign up for every single program when traveling if they think they'll stay there occasionally, but as we all can agree on I think, it make more sense to focus on just a few.
Cheers.
