Funny thing is, my hubby booked a B fare and used miles to upgrade earlier this year. The B fare was on a GREAT sale -- $1300 CLL-HKG. One of his colleagues waited around till a couple of weeks before the trip, and got a bottom-barrel fare class that ended up costing MORE than our B Fare. He was reimbursed the full amount (a few hundred more than we paid), while hubby received less than the full amount because it was a B fare.
So the moral of the story is, those who procrastinate and cost the company more money are rewarded, while those who practice proactive travel planning are penalized.
