I have been trying to book an award ticket on Air China since last Monday. Initially I was told by 1K desk that there was a technical issue with Air China and no reservation can be ticketed for those several days. Today when I called back I was told by an reservation agent that Air China is leaving Star Alliance and may join Delta's Sky Team alliance, so no more award tickets can be booked on it. Is this true? Shanghai Airlines was bought by China Eastern and left Star effective November 1, not Air China. You need to call and be insistent. I have not had good luck booking award tickets on CA with the UA GS or US reservations agents though with a lot of perserverence it got done. I made out better with the Japan reservations agents who you can call by skype if you want to give it a try.
