PW doesn't fly very often and is not as knowledgeable about the ins and outs of travel like we are. I wondered if it would have been alright putting him on BA from Germany, but since I was paying (and booking) the ticket, that was the best option since all other *A carriers' fares from HAM to YYZ (ie AC, LH, LX, OS) were about 200 + euros more. I could not book him on a later connecting flight because there were no seats available! You know BA's booking system through Amadeus. Either that 1.25hr connection or nothing!
The crew didn't come to tell the passengers anything because they weren't there ??The last I spoke to PW, he said that he'd like to avoid BA (and Terminal 5) the next time he flies if he can. He only has one other experience flying to Canada and that was with AC about 2 years ago when I flew with him from HAM to YVR via LHR. I was surprised to hear him say this time that he felt that the AC cabin crew were warmer, and they seemed to be more frequent coming round the cabin offering drinks and snacks. He remembered that that we were fed 3 times. I didn't think a peanut snack is considered a meal. But hey, what do I know!
He said that his best experience was with Singapore Airlines.. and that was after a short 1 hour jaunt between Penang and Singapore in economy class! His other flights in the past 3 years (since I've known him) had only been with Malaysia Airlines, Qatar, and Lufthansa. The rest of his flying experiences ha donly been with Thomas Cook, and Air Berlin I think.
We defend BA because we see this as a one off occasion only and that "normally" this would not happen. But for a first timer on a flight like this, do you think anyone would (want to) fly with BA again? Anyway, I'll know about it the next time when he comes back to Canada again.
You have every right to defend the OP. To me, experience sounds exaggerated.
Of course if the crew weren't there, they can't tell the passengers anything. But was any information given to the passengers by the gate agents? I would agree that if there was no announcement or apology for the initial delay, I would be somewhat annoyed. The OP doesn't say they were given no information.
Despite the very stressful delay, the flight arrived on stand only 25 minutes late. Are you saying if you been given a choice of connections, you would have chosen a longer one, rather than 1hr25mins?
I would agree that the current amount of off-pier arrivals/departures BA does is annoying and more covered aircraft steps should be provided.
The OP also mentions that after queuing for an hour to get rebooked, they had to queue for another hour to leave the terminal. Even with long queues, I can't imagine it taking anything close to an hour to get through immigration with a UK passport.
