According to the CBC, they are going to charge for food, beverages, seat assignments, and headphones. Won't passengers have a difficult time separating the mainline and discount brands, especially on routes served by both (YYZ-YYC, YYZ-YVR, etc.)? I presume you will still phone Air Canada for your ticket, you will still check in with Air Canada and board through an Air Canada gate. I envision someone phoning Air Canada for a flight, being booked on Tango, and then becoming irate that AC has the nerve to charge for headphones and a can of pop on a flight to Vancouver. If they absolutely insist on going ahead with one (or two or however many) discount airlines, they should also separate the routes so they don't "compete" with themselves.
