It's also cheaper on Continental to purchase 2 one way ticket EWR - YUL & YUL - EWR then one R/T ticket EWR-YUL-EWR.
Yeah, I think I had a EWR-PHL-SFO RT that was substantially cheaper than PHL-SFO earlier this year. It is infuriating but obviously is not cost based pricing, but rather demand based pricing. Just a different pricing model to maximize revenue.
Somewhat luckily (I suppose) as my location suggests in my profile, I'm located between both airports, so I can follow the fare. Though I don't fancy the turboprop from EWR to PHL.
