I don't need room service or to feel like royalty, but if I'm paying several hundred dollars a night for a room, I at least want to feel like I'm getting a good value.
I'd stay in Canmore. The views from almost any of the good hotels(Pocaterra Inn is my favourite) are far better than in Banff. Plus the hotels are cheaper. Banff is only 20 minutes away and to be perfectly honest Kananaskis Country is far better than the immediate surrounding of Banff. Canmore has everything that Banff has except some of the rowdier nightlife and overpriced shopping.
