That sorted I would write a letter to Egypt Air claiming the costs of the one night's accommodation. You may want to try to claim for additional compensation from them but I wouldn't hold my breath.
I flew them last night to Beirut. As usual a delay of our hour plus with no announcement as to why or when we'd get boarded until one minute before we get on the airplane.
Am not surprised by your experience. Once took me 8 months to get a refund for a canceled flight.
