The crediting program does not matter if you are going for a mileage-supported upgrade. You do not need the number from the account supporting the upgrade in the reservation at all. Remember that you can support an upgrade for anyone so such a requirement would be impractical.



On thr code-share rule, you should be able to upgrade any CO operated flight with CO miles even if it was sold as a code-share originally. It works for EUAs, too, though obviously no EUAs in BF. CO sees code-share flights based on the CO details for the most part, not the details of the issuing carrier in terms of benefits.

If you wanted to use UA miles for the upgrade on CO metal it becomes a different mess and the *A rules apply, including no code-shares.
