Service: Generally good, but there are slips. None critical. The whole "Andaz Host" concept needs re-thinking; it's often impossible to figure out who among the people wandering the lobby area are staff.

There is no regular doorman and few taxis come by the hotel.

Towels and glasses are stocked more for one person than for two. No coffee/tea maker in room, but there are some free soft drinks, replenished daily.

Physical plant: Still a major problem and "we are a green hotel" is used as an excuse for this by everyone up to and including the director of rooms (fortunately, not by the GM).

There is a motion sensor which in larger rooms does not see much of the room, including the bed area. As a result HVAC and (after a while) lights will turn off. Some staff can override the HVAC default but it only lasts for 2 days max. There is also a sensor in the door that decides, sometimes wrongly, that you have left the room.

Room lighting is inadequate. Incidentally, the lighting in the bathrooms is really low, but I understand this is being addressed.

Internet access is good.

No drawers to store stuff in. Room shades do not black out the room, even at night.

I would like to give the hotel another try in 6-12 months to see if things were fixed but the HVAC issue is critical to me, and I just don't want to fight it next time if it hasn't been addressed properly.

As I said in one of my earlier comments, I guess I am just not an Andaz kind of guy.
i really have NEVER had a problem recognizing staff at an Andaz. Yea, they may not wear traditional bellhop uniforms or ugly-colored blazers at the front desk, but it seems pretty obvious to me who is working, as many times their outfits are still coordinated similarly. the same as when i walk into a restaurant and you can recognize the waitstaff even if they are not wearing a tie and an apron. i think it is one of those things where people are simply not even trying to spot the hotel staff because they are against the andaz host style. personally, i love andaz, and other than park hyatts, there is not another brand in the hyatt portfolio that i enjoy staying at more.
