I've read that something special happens when you reach million mile status. My husband is a Platinum (3rd year) - and, he did receive a card that says "million miler" but other than that, no other benefits. I've read someone say that you could get lifetime gold? Do you get a letter that says this? Are there also upgrades? Anything else? </font>
First, congratulations!

Second, if your husband loses his Platinum statis, he will fall back to Gold status - which is his for life.

In the US area, "million milers" also receive some 500 mile electronic upgrades to use in US - Canada - Mexico -Caribbean. Since these are not usable outside this area, I imagine your husband did not get any. (If he is traveling in the US / electronic upgrade area, it might not hurt to ask the AAdvantage desk for them, so he can "spend" them on North American flights.)

TWO million milers get Platinum for life, as well as a packet with VIPOW upgrade certificates good for international flights as well.
