Advice on M&M (*A)/ EY Guest Strategy

Hi,

I am in possession of the following two FF programs (Amongst others)

-Miles & More (*A)- Basic level
-EY Guest - Silver level
-Skyteam - Silver level (Useless status, waste of time collecting these)

I am probably travelling LHR- Kuching, Malaysia next week in Economy. I am at the point where this trip MIGHT take me M&M Silver OR will take me EY Guest Gold.

I will fly either SQ or EY.

Now the might is because I fly Economy and M&M seem to only credit you with 50% miles on one leg, (Or both?) in economy, so I may just miss Silver if I don't get 1.5 legs at 100% miles.

On the other hand, I will get 100% miles plus 25% miles with EY and the return leg from AUH- LHR will see me turn Gold. (50% bonus on miles and priority checking/ security/ boarding).

Given that M&M seem to penalise Economy tickets with the 50% reduction on one leg and anything above silver is unobtainable with me flying Economy as company policy, I am planning to collect *A miles through BMI Diamond club from next year and burn down my M&M balance with an upgrade or Econo tickets or something in the future.

I am wondering if there is any point pursuing the SQ route to try and get silver M&M or just cut my losses and get the (easy) silver with BMI next year?

My main reasoning is that me and the wife are going on holiday to Brazil in March in LH Econo and flying around Brazil with TAM (Also *A), but as far as I know, she won't be able to join me in the lounge etc on M&M Silver anyway, so it is kind of pointless having the status?

EY on the other hand will earn me 19,000 miles which is not far off being a free LHR-AUH upgrade/ ticket, or towards a nice item from their excellent shop. However, it seems silly to throw away probably my last shot for a year of *A silver.

Next year *A silver via BMI should be obtainable without too many issues by about Q3 I think thanks to low points reqs.

What would you do in this scenario?

Thanks
