The option that I've been using lately is connecting through Zurich. AA has a code share with SWISS that works quite well for getting status miles and bonuses. I do have trouble from time to time as the fare creeps up on the code share when compared with fare offered by LX. I use this when travelling to Bombay. But I believe there is also an LX/AA code share flight to Delhi.

This option is always cheaper than using the BA connection.

Other options into and out of India that I've used is connecting in CDG and using Delta.

Also you can fly Air India, which I was forced to do once on missed connection. Business class was fine, but coach looked miserable. The Air India option doesn't earn any useable miles in a U.S. program that I could find.
