From start to finish, I was not disappointed! I'm a W person, but the Andaz here was a definite step above the Ws I've stayed in and gave me better service than the SLS Hotel.
My host checked me in and took me up to my XL room. I was wowed from the beginning. He made sure that I understood all the workings of the controls in the room before he left. Honestly, I LOVED the room. I'm the sort who doesn't unpack, so not having a dresser was not a big deal to me. I sat on that sofa every afternoon for a little and read the New York Times given to me and ate one of the very nice red apples left for me on the desk. That sofa was very comfortable! I slept like a log in that bed - something I don't do very often in a hotel (unless it's a Westin or W). I loved that bathroom! If you gave me that room and bathroom and added a kitchen (say like the one on the 2nd floor!), I could live there!!! The view out to the NYPL was impressive.
The staff was exceptional. Doors opened everytime I came and went. One day, I mentioned how cold I felt. I came back down to the lobby for awhile to get on the computer and one of the hosts asked me if I'd like a cup of coffee. Very nice touch! The bar downstairs was a good place to spend some time. I loved the layout of the bar itself. The staff again proved exceptional. A very friendly bartender and servers made the night. The recommendation of the vodka drink (I think it was called the Skinny Tie) was fantastic. It was a taste I hadn't had before and I loved it. But, the best of all was the roasted pork loin with black kale that I had for a snack. OMG! It was out-of-this-world good. I would sure like that recipe! It would make a dish that I'd love to come home to on a cold winter night!!!

Honestly, I have nothing negative to say about the Andaz 5th Avenue. It felt like this little club that I was welcomed into. From the outside, I had no idea that this was a hotel. I actually liked this. Hyatt has a great little hotel there! On this trip of mine, I stayed at the Kimpton Hotel Palomar in Arlington, VA, and the Hyatt Chesapeake in addition to the Andaz. The Andaz was the highlight of the trip, staywise. If I am ever back in NYC, I will most definitely stay there!
glad to read your review. most of the reviews here are very positive. The GM also appears to be wonderful. I look forward to trying out the Andaz this year.
