More expensive but in the same size range is the Timbuk2 suitcase, it has become my standard bag for trips of 2 days or less, sometimes stretched to 3 days, meets all your requirements and the laptop compartment will separate from the other larger compartment

also would note that it will fit in the overhead of every single jet I have every flown in, however should mention that I don't grossly overstuff it
