Oprah is arguably "THE" mogul of our lifetime. To have her associated with UA is definitely a plus, because the lovers far, far, FAR outweigh the haters.
Slap Oprah on a plane and you're likely to attract the "filler" business of Ma and Pa Kettle (especially Ma). You know, the ones that go to Miami and Cancun for their yearly vacation. This frees up marketing's time to go reach out to the Y, B, and F fare biz travelers and other elites.
As was pointed out earlier in this thread, Oprah travels by business jet. Her ratings are plummeting. The idea that "Pa" Kettle will switch to UA because they see an Oprah plane is ludicrous.
As for the marketing department: I'd much rather hear they are extending E+ or bringing mainline jets out of the desert. That's what I care about.
