New NZ baggage rules not in accordance with *G benefit

OK, I just came back AKL-SYD on NZ on an old 767 without space+. I'll never fly NZ again is they don't bring back space+. I'm 6'7'' and for me this was the most important factor when choosing my airline. Now, I get more space on QF plus more baggage allowance, plus a movie, plus points for all fares booked. So, where does NZ think they offer any advantage

Anyway, besides this the new baggage rules are simply not in accordance with *G rules.

Extra Baggage Allowance - an additional 20kg (44 pounds) or one additional piece of luggage2 which means you can check in three bags instead of two.
So, NZ offers 1 extra bag of 23kg, however, they charged me $50 for my bag which was 29kg despite as a *Gold I'm allowed to take an extra 20kg with me on this flight. They say they offer an extra bag instead of 20kg but to be honest who flies on business with 2 bags of 23kg each? The real benefit is that you can take extra weight in one bag with you and despite speaking to 3 supervisors they insisted I paid the fee. I'll log a complaint with NZ and I will avoid them if I can until they bring their baggage rules in line with *G benefits again.

Also, can someone clarify this for me: I've booked a J ticket to the US for December. They allow 3 bags of 23kg each for J passengers. But then as a *G I would expect to get an extra piece because the flight is to North America. But on the NZ website it says that you can only take 3 bags max even as *G?

This whole new baggage rule despite not being *G compliant just makes me so angry. Who in their right mind would have 7 bags of 23kg to fly to the us as a couple, one being *G? Right, hardly anyone, which is exactly whey they changed the rules. Most people I know try to fly with as little bags as possible and if I'm paying for a J ticket I don't want to be forced to take 4 bags of 23kg with me. I'd rather take 2 bags of 30kg and every other airline would offer you this except for NZ!

So, do they want to encourage people to check-in 7 boxes of 23kg each instead of having maybe 3 bags of 30kg for 2 people? How does this save them any money? I just don't understand NZ anymore and they've lost another loyal customer.
