Why ?
1) As the Lurker has stated, normally SPG wanna see your card and see your history with the other program. Hyatt usually have the same requirement for a status match. The 60 day Hyatt Diamond thing was more like a challenge and it's been pulled now anyway.
2) Status matches are once-in-a-lifetime goodwill gestures to allow elites to move to SPG because perhaps they're fed up with their previous provider, their company's policy has changed or their travel patterns have changed. Once you had a status match, you will not be able to do it again - ever. No matter what.
3) OK OK so you know of some guys who gamed the system and got lucky.
Now they will be Plat for a year but so what ? This will be a tiny fraction of the SPG Plat base and if they needed to go through all this trouble in the first place it probably means that they will clock up 10 nights, at best, before the year is over and they lose their Plat status again. It's a drop in the ocean and will not threaten the viability of the system.
Agree. Although I don't like match idea at all but it's one time deal anyways...
