SPG used to comp anyone on the basis of a faxed or emailed statement, but there was too much fraud on both sides and they worked with some (not all) of the major programs to cut down on fraud, on the theory that both sides were facing it and that members commiting fraud were likely doing it to both programs.
Again, not all progrmas work with SPG on this. But at least in the past I've seen strong examples of where Hyatt provided the info to SPG and SPG denied comp Plat as a result.
That doesn't mean that every single request gets checked, or that some folks get by without being checked. But there was definitely a program set up where SPG and Hyatt speak on such matters.
+1. SPG told a family member that they were a trial Diamond member, even before that had faxed through the documentation.
