In terms of hard product, correct (excluding flights operated on 752s). CO certainly does have a premium transcon service though in terms of meal service.

It means you can book a less than optimal route (but one that would get you where you need to go) and then keep looking for better options to open up.
I regularly do this with reward bookings, often changing to a better flight the day before I'm due to leave.
