Well, it would be basically hedging my bets. When I come back I'm jobless, so the world is up for grabs (which is why I don't think I'll be flying-certainly not for leisure, anyway).
But I could move to Dallas. Or San Juan, for that matter. Or I could be hired in a job where AA is the corporate carrier. Who knows?
(Also, it was my understanding that challenges were a little easier to get--i.e. if I wanted to I could do it again in a year or two. If that's not the case then yes, the small number of bonus miles might not be worth it. I'm going to run the numbers and see exactly how I would end up if I do this before making a final decision.)
