Question

OK so this thread is a little old, but, how out-of date I wonder

I currently have a short trip (leisure) planned to Japan next week using my BMI airmiles. I am currently booked on (starting in BUD to save my airmiles); BUD-FRA (overnight), FRA-KIX (LH F A346). Award availability has opened up which would give me the option of switching to BUD-MUC, MUC-NRT (NH F on a B777)

Bearing in mind how rare NH F seats are I suspect that I am in a better position to switch to the NH F, but would appreciate a view from more regular LH F customers - I've never done LH F or NH F (but have done many of the other *A F). The rest of my trip is to continue to New Zealand, leaving from NRT around 5 days later, I have already done Tokyo so was planning on seeing other regions of Japan.

My thoughts, if anyone would care to critique.

Lounges-LH
> LH a clear winner, I get to try out the FRA F terminal
> NH - only access to the senator lounge at MUC (and I've been there before)

Timings-LH
> LH arrives at 9am rather than 3pm and is therefore more of a day flight than NH.
> NH can be done in a single trip without an overnight which would give me an extra day in BUD, I wouldn't be tired on arrival into NRT
> LH - I have a prepaid hotel in Mainz already booked and this flight would give me 0.5day more sightseeing

Onboard-Food & Service-NH
> NH - caviar and impeccable service plus plentiful good quality wines plus the tasting menu really appeals
> LH - very efficient service, good champagne, does it have caviar?

Onboard-Seat-NH
> Neither route is using the latest F seat for the carrier, however I think that NH has a much better seat for sleeping and relaxing.
> Each seat will be a single window seat, avoiding one of the usual LH issues

Onboard-Entertainment-NH
Not too certain on the LH entertainment but I suspect that NH wins here with a larger screen and a good choice.

So, to my mind I think its all down to how much better the NH service and seat are onboard - and when bearing in mind that it is reasonably easy to find LH F availability I'd be better saving my first LH F experience for a different time and jump at the NH chance, plus NH will cost me a bit more cash but leave me with more airmiles.

Anyone disagree with my logic, and thanks in advance for any views
