REALLY low credit limit on Citi Forward Card. . .any way to raise? Just cancel card?
I just applied for a Citi Forward card. I have excellent credit (780 FICO score) and low debt. I do, however, have a number of recent accounts and inquiries because of some cards I opened back in August because of the sign-on bonuses. All of my credit cards have limits that are $10,000+, including two Citi cards with limits approaching $20,000; however, I was only instantly approved for a $500 credit limit on the Citi Forward card.
I've already tried calling several numbers I have for various credit-card related departments at Citi to see if I can get this limit raised, perhaps by transferring some of the credit line over from another Citi card. I know that credit line reallocations seem to be a thing of the past, but I thought it was worth a shot.
My questions are:
1. Has anyone had luck getting an increased limit on a newly opened Citi card? I know in the past you couldn't even request a credit line increase until you had a card for at least six months. Basically this card is worthless to me without a $2,500 limit at the bare minimum.
2. If a credit line increase isn't possible, might I just be better off just canceling this card as soon as I get it? I'm worried that some of my other credit card issuers might get spooked that I would receive a new credit card with such a low limit and maybe try to lower my limits on their card.
Any thoughts?
